Built in 1710, the center piece of the Taylor Iron and Steel Company. Homestead of five generations of company presidents. Civil War General George W. Taylor, was born at Solitude. Visitors to Solitude included George and Martha Washington, Col Charles Stewart, Aaron Burr, as well as, many others. Sundial on grounds is exact replica of George Washington’s in Mount Vernon. Solitude House and its outerbuildings are eligible for the National Register of Historic Places.
